Ambarella CV2 Computer Vision SoC for Automotive Cameras

Ambarella’s CV2 SoC combines image processing, 4Kp30 video encoding, and CVflow™ computer vision processing in a single low-power design. CV2’s CVflow™ architecture provides DNN (Deep Neural Network) processing for the next generation of intelligent cameras, delivering computer vision processing at full 4K or 8-Megapixel resolution at 30 frames per second, to enable image recognition over long distances and with high accuracy. Fabricated in advanced 10nm process technology, CV2 includes efficient 4K encoding in both AVC and HEVC video formats, enabling high-resolution video streaming with very low bitrates.


CV22 4K SoC with CVflow™ Computer Vision Architecture

Ambarella CV1

The CV22 camera SoC, the second chip in the CVflow family, combines image processing, 4Kp60 video encoding, and CVflow computer vision processing in a single, low-power design. The CV22’s CVflow architecture provides the DNN (Deep Neural Network) processing required for the next generation of intelligent home monitoring, automotive, drone, and wearable cameras.

CV22 supports computer vision processing at full 4K or 8-Megapixel resolution at 30 frames per second to enable image recognition over long distances and with high accuracy. It includes efficient 4K encoding in both AVC and HEVC video formats, delivering high-resolution video streaming with very low bitrates to minimize cloud storage costs. The CV22’s next-generation ISP (Image Signal Processor) provides outstanding imaging in low light conditions while HDR (High Dynamic Range) processing extracts maximum image detail in high contrast scenes, further enhancing the computer vision capabilities of the chip.

CV1 4K Stereovision Processor with CVflow™ Computer Vision Architecture

CV1 is the first in a family of Ultra-HD computer vision processors based on Ambarella’s new CVflow architecture, which combines over 20 years of pioneering research in environmental perception with advances in DNN (Deep Neural Network) processing to deliver stereovision processing and deep learning perception algorithms to a variety of automotive applications, including ADAS, self-driving, electronic mirror and surround view systems, video security cameras, and fully autonomous drones.

CV1 supports computer vision processing up to 4K Ultra-HD resolution to enable object recognition and perception at extended distances. Its stereovision processing provides the ability to detect generic objects without training, allowing more robust decisions to be made in ADAS and autonomous vehicle applications. The advanced ISP (Image Signal Processor) includes HDR (High Dynamic Range) processing to deliver high quality images even in low light and high contrast environments.

H2 Flying Camera

Targeting high-end camera models with 4K Ultra HD H.265/HEVC video at 60 fps and 4K AVC video at 120 fps, the H2 SoC delivers pristine video during fast action shots as well as smooth slow-motion playback. H2 includes 10-bit High Dynamic Range (HDR) video processing to handle high-contrast scenes, offers DSLR-quality photography even in challenging conditions, and features advanced 3D electronic image stabilization, reducing the need for mechanical gimbals. In addition, the H2 chip is fabricated at 14nm and offers extremely low power consumption, allowing for small-form-factor camera design and development.

The integration of a 1.2-GHz quad-core ARM® Cortex® -A53 CPU with floating point and NEON™ provides significant processing power for customer applications including flying camera flight control, video analytics, and wireless networking. The H2 hardware de-warp engine supports wide-angle panoramic camera designs, while USB 3.0 connectivity provides fast upload of high-resolution video. H2 also supports live streaming of a second, low-delay, full-HD video stream for wireless monitoring and camera control.

Ambarella H22 - a 4K Ultra HD SoC for Next-Generation Drone Cameras

H22 Flying Camera

Targeting a new generation of 4K drone cameras with leading-edge video features, the H22 SoC is capable of encoding 4K Ultra HD video at 60 frames per second using the H.265 (HEVC) or H.264 (AVC) video formats, and supports advanced Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) up to 4K resolution.

The on-board 1.2 GHz Quad-Core ARM® Cortex®-A53 CPU provides significant processing power for customer applications including drone flight control, advanced analytics, video stitching and wireless networking. Fabricated in 14nm process technology, the H22 offers very low power consumption, enabling 4K cameras with small form factors and extended battery life.

The H22 includes a highly optimized image processing pipeline with excellent imaging and advanced noise reduction, and a hardware de-warp engine to support wide-angle panoramic designs with minimal distortion. The device’s 4K EIS can augment or potentially eliminate the need for a mechanical gimbal in a drone. The ability to encode at high frame rates, including 4Kp60 and 1080p120, delivers smooth slow-motion, high-definition video even during fast action shots.

Ambarella H3 - 8K Ultra HD SoC for High-End Drone Cameras

H3 Flying Camera

The H3 video SoC enables 8K Ultra HD H.264/AVC video at 30 frames per second, as well as multiple video streams with equivalent performance, including dual 4Kp60 sensor video capture.

8K videos played on large 8K displays provide a superior viewing experience to the end user, as pixels at this resolution are indistinguishable to the human eye at any reasonable distance. The combination of 8K video capture together with Ambarella’s advanced oversampling and image stabilization also enables higher video quality 4K video recording.

H3 includes a powerful multi-channel ISP for multi-sensor drone applications. Its 10-bit HEVC High Dynamic Range (HDR) video processing handles high-contrast and wide color range scenes. It also features Ambarella’s advanced Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), capable of generating a smooth 4Kp60 video output under challenging conditions, including during high winds and with high degrees of rotation. The H3’s hardware de-warping engine supports wide-angle panoramic camera designs and fish-eye lenses.

A12S Flying Camera SoC

The Ambarella A12S Flying Camera SoC targets mainstream 1080p to 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) flying cameras.

The A12S is a system-on-chip solution that integrates an advanced image sensor pipeline (ISP), an H.264 encoder, and a powerful ARM® Cortex™-A9 CPU. Targeting the next generation of connected flying cameras, the A12S chip delivers up to 4K video recording at 30 frames per second while streaming a second, live, mobile-resolution video over a WiFi network for preview or sharing. A hardware-accelerated 3-dimensional image stabilization engine with rolling shutter correction enables stable recording during windy or high-motion conditions.

The A12S 800-MHz Cortex ARM A9 CPU provides ample performance for advanced camera, flight control, and streaming applications. A unique architecture and 28nm process technology minimize power consumption while maximizing performance.
